This Week in the Workshop 4 Pieces to Finish

A busy week with four pieces of furniture for two separate clients being finished off this week.

Tony has been making a wardrobe with oak veneered carcassing and doors with quite an interesting handle and mirror combination. The unit has staggered drawers and pull down rails to maximise the space and fit exactly with the clients needs. For the same room we are making a large matching AV unit with fold down desk and sliding doors on the bottom. Once finished it will all be sprayed in Farrow and Ball ‘all white’.

I have been working on a large dresser unit for a home office, which includes a scanner pull try and an extra deep drawer to take suspension files. The doors are on butt hinges so we have used tulip wood to make the classic shaker style doors and frames. I have also been working on a hall cupboard for the same client, which is a true representation of bespoke furniture as we are making the unit to wrap around a brick pillar and then fit into the window reveal. Only by making this by hand can this be achieved. We have used a different manufacturer for the hinges on this project, the company Simonswerk make some very nice ironmongery and they have not disappointed, very accurately made and you can really feel the quality.

I’ll be in the spray room finishing all the cabinets for the next few weeks! Not my most favourite part of the job but it means we are always in control of the quality of our product!
